Difficulty picking rabbit up?

I have a male rabbit called Thumper,got him about a month ago and he was something like 10 weeks when we got him.He is actually my brothers but i don't live with him and mum so i don't see Thumper alot.Anyway whenever I try to pick him up he struggles,scratches etc. I try hold him close and make him secure but sometimes he bites me which is pretty sore so now i'm scared of holding him close. Also when he is in his cage when i pour feed in his bowl he lunges for the plastic bag,same for the hay bag,and he starts biting and tearing at it. Or when i ruffle up the hay or put back spilled food in his bowl he'll try to bite me,I don't know why. Also anyone got ideas on toys or something to keep him amused in his cage,as he must be quite bored in there.
