Could you date someone who is very religious?

I've been dating my boyfriend for a few months and i always knew he was a christian, I just never knew how faithful he was to his religion. He isn't preachy or judgmental, in fact he has expressed his belief that people should be able to practice what ever they wish, but I do feel that his beliefs are cutting into our relationship a bit. He doesn't ever drink (at all), and he wont do anything sexual at all either. He kisses me, but nothing beyond that. Were both 23 and I'm his first girlfriend, so sometimes I feel like I just want to show him more, because he is very compassionate and sweet, and I'm starting to fall for him, but he is very ardent in sticking to his morals. I've never been with someone who is so self controlled and in a way i admire that about him a lot, but I find myself sometimes wishing he would be more open minded to experiencing things. Beyond that, he is everything I want, he's extremely smart, in fact he is a little to smart (he is kind of quirky and eccentric. He's going to school to be a physicist, so he is way out there on the intelligence spectrum), very shy (which i think is adorable), polite, caring, and very respectful of all people. But should I dedicate myself to someone who most of my social life won't understand, and I don't know if I can relate enough to his way of life. Again, he isn't a bible thumper by any means, he just follows his beliefs himself.
